Love

Day 13
Luke 10:25-37
- This story is one that we have all heard from the time we were little kids. Be a good Samaritan. I have heard about 1000 times. But when I learned most about it was when I taught part of the elevate curriculum to a group a elementary kids. On the DVD I learned that the man that stopped was a Samaritan, one from Samaria. Samaritans where looked down upon at this time in history and no-one would expect them to be the ones that lend a helping hand. That to me is one of the most impact full parts of the story, help from an unexpected place.

Also, this text doesnt start with the parable from Jesus, it starts with a man questioning Jesus. He asks Him how to have eternal life. The answer that Jesus got from the man, which was correct was:
"Love the Lord your God
with all you heart
and with all your soul
and with all your strength
and with all your mind
AND
love your neighbor as yourself"
What a powerful message. Included with loving our Lord we are to love our neighbors. I have always just thought of being a good Samaritan as something that is nice. But NO, it is essential to having everlasting life. And we better help everyone that we come in contact with, not only the ones that it is easy to help. We should love everyone as ourselves.
